(From Instagram):
A little tune about ambition and burnout in a world that claps when it’s convenient.
Interesting fact: the entire video was generated using a program I built that uses AI-powered image and video generation APIs. It stitches together a 3:30 minute narrative in about 25 minutes — then takes another 15 to upscale the visuals to full HD.
🚧 A file with structured prompts and video context, one click, and suddenly Fancy Town comes to life (or whatever else).
(From YouTube):
🌆 Welcome to Fancy Town — where the glitz is fake, the grind is real, and the cost of entry is your soul. This original track dives into the illusions, disillusionments, and gut punches of chasing dreams in a place that only claps when you're useful. 🔔 Watch, weep, and maybe laugh a little. Then hit like, comment, and subscribe to ride with The Butterscotch Boys as we keep peeling back the glitter. 📲
I worked with many of the musicians on this stage to record Eric Engblade’s new music for Plant Our Trees: Vol 1 in 2024, and we kicked off a summer of shows highlighting this album release at Tip Top Deluxe on April 18th in Grand Rapids, MI and at The Rumpus Room on April 25th in Chelsea, MI. Keep an eye out for more 2025 performances of this music!
2024 Highlights
This wonderful concert was recorded by the diligent media team that captured the whole event! We also had our previous drummer, Madison George, join us for the festivities!
The great folks in After Ours released "OK2DAY," a song I had fun contributing keys for alongside Hannah Laine's vocals!
In July 2024, Eli Kahn accepted the award from the 16th Annual Music Video Asheville Awards on behalf of the animator, Nathan Morrow, After Ours, and the guest collaborators on the recording process!
This mashup of Bombtrack by Rage Against The Machine and National Anthem by Radiohead includes members from all sorts of Grand Rapids bands coming together for a few hours and arranging, rehearsing, and recording the final product that day. Check out more from The Dogtown City Band for these types of one-off collaborations!
I joined a host of Grand Rapids artists to work with Lady Ace Boogie on a cover of Like a Stone by Audioslave, a cover that also features The Dogtown City Band in action! We got the arrangement together that night and recorded the final product.
The first session I did with The Dogtown City Band, which also featured mainly Grand Rapids artists! We picked the song, vibe, and arranged the song to rehearse/record that afternoon!
Alex Austin is a wonderful singer/songwriter that leads the band Deerfield Run, and he asked me to record this intimate version of this tune!
Dogtown Studio Sessions
I have done a variety of sessions with Dogtown Studio in Grand Rapids, MI, including sessions with various groups I’m involved with and alongside folks for the Dogtown City Band collaborative project! More recent session will be placed towards the top, but all will eventually end up in this section!

Back when shows were a regular thing for the band, we performed "The Lesson," a tune that would later appear on our recently released album "Reanimate," live for a studio audience at Third Coast Recording Company. The event included a host of bands all involved with Crooked Tree Creative, and it signified the exciting launch of this new, collaborative effort to highlight and support West Michigan artists. The Lesson was written by our now former guitarist, Travis Swanson, who crafted this tune for Reanimate in the hopes that it would add a moment of introspection and gratitude for listeners to sink into while enjoying the music. If you want to hear the recorded version we did for the record, feel free to browse our links below!

While living in Kalamazoo during my time studying at Western Michigan University, I was connected with this team of creative media producers at Overneath Creative. Music videos/Films
This section is here to highlight any videos created explicitly to create a music video, rather than simply capturing a live performance on a gig or in the studio. However, the exceptions are videos that were created with visuals created afterwards to compliment the live performance, as that isn’t purely focused on the musicians on stage or created as a product from a live performance towards something like a Tiny Desk Contest submission.
A short form concert film that takes you through a dimension of colors in a jazz-noir setting using live video feedback effects. An experimental synthesis of jazz and celestial, psychedelic influences featuring space-jazz band Normal Mode.

This was a video that I created for my cousin, Garrett Snedeker, to use for both live performances and this recorded version Frederic Rzewski's North American ballads, of which this is the third. This recording is from his Master’s Recital in 2021 at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.
The video was entirely crafted with archival footage from fair-use databases, and it features reenactments of the antebellum South and the Civil War, early suburbia advertisements, and protest footage during the Civil Rights era.
The idea was to compliment the mood of the music while highlighting the protest music behind this classical composer’s interpretation of traditional spiritual. The narrative follows the transformation of white and black freed citizens post-slavery and showcases the dichotomy between each community’s development after reconstruction into the early 70’s.
(From YouTube):
Pipedream, taken off of Earth Radio's recent album "Mother's Breath," speaks to the frustration and corruption surrounding the ongoing hardships faced by the residents of Flint, MI. Whether it's knowingly poisoning a community while people at the top profited or realizing generations of children are going to be impacted for years to come, it's still a problem and we need to keep emphasizing this for people to understand.
As Michigan residents, we all have friends and their families who have been directly impacted from the crisis, and we need to make a change instead of patching it with bottled water and putting off a drastic update in infrastructure.
We hope you tune into the message behind our music and research how you can make a difference today.

Both videos outline a portion of the longer performance of John Luther Adams’ piece Ten Thousand Birds while he was the composer-in-residence at the Bang on a Can 2016 Summer Marathon. This piece is a series of North American bird calls notated as motifs, and it is up to an ensemble director, which in this instance Bang on a Can pianist Vicky Chow, to orchestrate and stage the piece in the warehouse gallery at Mass MOCA.
I performed on a celeste and a piano, and I remember a Robin and Cardinal being a part of the calls I needed to emulate. The combination of winds, brass, strings, percussion, and keyboard instruments helped to create a natural environment that the audience could not only observe but interact with by moving about the space for different perspectives, especially when you have brass being frogs and strings moving through the space like the wind.
GVSU New Music Ensemble
One of my favorite experiences in all of my music school studies was being involved with the Grand Valley New Music Ensemble, a group dedicated to performing works by living composers directed by Bill Ryan, who is a celebrated composer in his own right among the many peers he celebrates through the programming of this chamber group. All of the videos are either things I did as an alumni of the ensemble or while I was attending GVSU for my classical performance undergrad, so please enjoy and take time to check out more accolades from the ensemble and when they’ll be playing in West Michigan!

If playing in various schools and events has taught me one thing, it’s finding the key of “happy birthday” to accompany a group singing! We wished Happy Birthday to the composer, who at the time of writing this is now almost 60! Time for another birthday reunion?

Composer's note:
A child learns to draw by drawing lines. In the hands of a child a person is a stick figure, a skeletal intersection of stark lines, stripped of flesh, without subtle details. Only later does a child learn to add things -- some hair, a dress, some shoes. Watching my children go through this stage has made me realize that my music is moving in the opposite direction. With every piece a little bit of flesh is removed, a little more skeleton is uncovered.

(From YouTube):
About Earth Radio: Earth Radio is a thing that is very hard to create in the 21st century: a whole new sound under the sun. Cutting-edge jazz grooves collide with deep soul and rock attitude, creating a sound as legit as any cerebral head-trip ensemble but as enjoyable as any corner bar cover band. This is what your head echoes with, if you're lucky. The band's self-titled 2018 debut was awarded “Emerging Artist of The Year” and “Best Jazz Album of 2018” for the 2019 WYCE Jammie Awards. Mother's Breath, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, came out in 2019.
Earth Radio is Justin Avdek (bass/effects, vocals), Hannah Laine (vocals, piano), Dutcher Snedeker (keyboards, synth), Travis Swanson (guitar), and David Ward (drums/percussion).

Americana artist Morgan Haner performs "Copper" in the Elevator a GoGo.
Morgan Haner, a self-taught songwriter from rural Illinois, tells stories in the great tradition of American songwriting. His songs connect us to history, struggles, and daily joys and tragedies, putting us directly into someone else's shoes. After self-producing two albums and an EP, Morgan's newest release, Pocket Knife, was entirely self-produced in 2021. With only nine tracks, the album reminds us of the late Townes Van Zandt's records and showcases Morgan's songwriting skill. Despite failing music school auditions, Morgan Haner has curated a global following and is a working-class songsmith.

Guitar: Alex Austin

Earth Radio is a unique collective of musicians that are pushing the boundaries of soul music to a new level. Based in Grand Rapids, MI, the progressive soul quintet has been hard at work recording music, playing live shows, and writing new original material day by day. Hannah Laine (lead vox, piano), Justin Avdek (bass, vox), Dutcher Snedeker (keys), Travis Swanson (guitar), and Hayaman Mana Tzach (drums) have all gained their own respective place as successful musicians in the West Michigan music community and are coming together to blend their unique styles of music to create a musical powerhouse oozing with fat drum beats, funky bass lines, smooth guitar runs, nasty synth sounds, and uniquely soulful vocals that sound like they belong deep in the outer reaches of space time. Live from Studio X, on 88.1fm WYCE.
